Anne-Marie Hildebrandt began her musical career
as a classical pianist at the tender age of 3.
Continuing with a nearly single focus throughout
her young life, she eventually graduated from
The
Juilliard School in Piano Performance. Along the
way, however, she picked up a few other interests,
including singing, songwriting, and ear training.
In fact, she taught Ear Training for 5 years at
Juilliard before moving on to other pursuits.
Those "other pursuits" turned out to be musical,
although not exactly classical. For several years
in New York City Anne-Marie immersed herself in
traditional Irish music, learning to sing in the
traditional sean nos style as well as to play the
Celtic harp, Irish fiddle, Irish frame drum, Irish
tin whistle, a bit of guitar... and others!

This is not meant to imply that Anne-Marie left
the piano behind. No, she paid her dues playing
cocktail gigs in the clubs, ritzy apartments,
and office building lobbies of New York City,
learning to improvise and play by ear and from
fake books. She also dabbled in American folk
music, folk rock, and wrote a voluminous amount
of songs, mostly for herself to sing while
playing the piano; something she still enjoys.

Actually, she still enjoys it all! Anne-Marie
uses her varied musical background and unusual
combination of fluency in both reading music and
improvising to enrich everything she does. She
loves writing arrangements and original pieces
for any combination of instruments, in a variety
of styles. And if she blurs the boundary
between genres in the process, all the better!

These days Anne-Marie spends her time
practicing, writing music, recording,
teaching, and raising her two small boys
at home in Sandy, Utah.
